THE THELMA GOODALL MEMORIAL BURSARY

In acknowledging the importance of assisting youth in care to pursue activities, which would enhance their self-concept and future employment possibilities, the Federation of Foster Families of Nova Scotia has established a bursary program for such purposes. This is designed to be an award of encouragement and should not be considered to be in lieu of financial support from any other agency or organization.

WHO MAY APPLY – A youth-in-care or former youth-in-care who is enrolled in an educational program to further his/her skills.

APPLICATION PERIOD – Applications are received by the Federation office in Dartmouth throughout the year. The application deadline each year is May 31. Bursaries will be awarded in the fall.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE – An application form may be obtained from your local child welfare agency or from the Federation Office in Dartmouth. Application forms must be accompanied by:

  • A letter of confirmation showing that the applicant is enrolled in an educational program.
  • A letter of recommendation from your social worker
  • A short written or taped essay describing why you have chosen to enter this particular educational program (200 words maximum length)

SELECTION PROCEDURE – All completed applications will be brought before a three-member committee comprised of representatives from the Federation’s Board of Directors.
