THE JENNY CAJOLAIS MEMORIAL BURSARY

In acknowledging the importance of the role of birth and adopted children of foster parents in providing foster children with a healthy home environment, and in acknowledging that birth and adoptive children in foster homes must be very willing and able to adapt to an ever-changing home environment, the Federation of Foster Families of Nova Scotia has established a bursary program for these children of foster parents. This is designed to be an award of encouragement and should not be considered to be in lieu of financial support from any other agency or organization.

WHO MAY APPLY – A birth or adopted child of foster parents who has been fostering for a minimum of five years. The applicant must be enrolled in an educational program to further his/her skills.

APPLICATION PERIOD – Applications are received by the Federation office in Dartmouth throughout the year. The application deadline each year is May 31. Bursaries will be awarded in the fall.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE – An application form may be obtained from your local child welfare agency or from the Federation Office in Dartmouth. Application forms must be accompanied by:

• A letter of confirmation showing that the applicant is enrolled in an educational program.
• A letter of recommendation from the Foster Care Coordinator for your parent(s)
• A short written or typed essay describing why you have chosen to enter this particular educational program (200 words maximum length)

SELECTION PROCEDURE – All completed applications will be brought before a three-member committee comprised of representatives from the Federation’s Board of Directors.
