ABSW Survey - Recruitment and Retention of Black and African Nova Scotian Foster Caregivers

As foster caregivers are a critical part of Nova Scotia’s child welfare system, the Association of
Black Social Workers (ABSW) in partnership with the Department of Community Services
(DCS) are seeking ways to recruit and retain foster caregivers for children and youth in care.

The goal is to create a system where all children and youth in foster care will be safe and thrive
through appropriate, stable, and child focused placements that are delivered by diverse and
caring foster caregivers.

Specifically, there needs to be more foster caregivers with diverse cultural backgrounds that
reflect the unique cultural, spiritual, and language needs of the children and youth in care.

We are seeking your feedback to support the increased recruitment and retention of Black and
African Nova Scotian foster caregivers.

We thank you in advance for taking 10 minutes to complete this survey.

Once the survey is closed on June 10th, participants will be entered into a draw to win a $100 prize
